About the Founder, Hilary McCrea

Hilary always dreamed of having her own business. With this in mind she studied and earned her BSc. in Business Management. Over the next 30 years she worked in the US and the U.K. in a variety of jobs trying to find her inspiration.

Fast forward to one magically day in 2004 while working for Tommy Hilfiger she was inspired to start her own shoes company. The birth of the HilaryM brand was born. For the next 8 years she worked tirelessly to make her dream a reality. Hilary ran a very successful business of handmade shoes made in a little village in Italy. She was the ultimate one-woman band. There was a concession in St John’s Wood, she supplied a shop in Ireland and worked Spitalfields & Portobello Markets on the weekend. Everything seemed great until she realised she faced the killer of all businesses – Cash flow.

Hilary learnt the importance of people, support, experience and expertise and vowed she would do everything she could to help other people in the fashion business. The development of the fashionbytes platform came to fruition creating a more inclusive resource for everyone needing information and support in an industry that can be quite closed to newcomers. Our ethos is to Connect. Collaborate. Share.
